Setup Technical Question : Rpm Versus Gear ratios vor 4 Monaten
Like always, everytime i learn a new thing on GTR2 that cost me a race.
On the Fuji Track with the "VW Golf VI R Cup" my motor exploded after 22 laps.

I started the race with an engine health of 94% and i suddenly noticed after 20 laps that my engine health was at 10%...too late to do anything and after 22 laps my motor died.
I almost had no problems with engine health with other cars except the EEC cars & with the "Porsche 911 [997] GT3 Cup" but only on Le Mans.
I said that because it could have been a consequence of my way of driving but it seems for the "VW Golf VI R Cup" it comes from my setup and the fragile engine of this car.

Jackpot had the same car and he had no engine health problems.
Jackpot adjusted his rpm to 7000 & mine was adjusted to 7600 which was the Maximum (6800 was the minimum).
So the problem comes from that...the Rpm which has sometimes a big impact on the engine health for certain cars and also depending of the track.
After Race, Jackpot nicely told me that on track with long fast straight it is better to have less rpm not to have problem with engine. Thanks a lot for this advice Jackpot.

I always made my setup by choosing almost the more rpm & then adjust my gear ratios...maybe i was totally wrong.
With the "VW Golf VI R Cup" my Top Speed was 270km/h (notify on the 1st page of the setup menu) and i was able to have this Top Speed with 7600rpm and lower gear ratio or 6900rpm and longer gear ratio.
I understand now for this race it was better to have less rpm and longer gear ratio BUT with a normal car on a normal track what is the best, to try to have the more rpm possible ...or not ? ...i admit i am a bit lost.

My question is about what brings the rpm ? is it better to have the more rpm possible to be more competitive ?
I understood the disadvantages of high RPM are more damages on engine and more consumption but i am wondering what are the real benefits of high rpm?
Sorry for this long post, i tried to explain my questionning as accurate as possible.
Thanks to anyone who would like to give a little of his time to explain me.

Aw: Setup Technical Question : Rpm Versus Gear ratios vor 4 Monaten
Short answer: Depends on the engine.

Most of the cars have the max. hp and torque @ X rpm written down in the Car Specs tab (far right in the Advanced setup menu, called 'Details' in my English version) and many also feature a graph with more precise hp and torque curves.
This for example is the one for the VW Golf VI R Cup:

As you can see you have most torque between 2-4k rpm (blue line in Nm) and the hp (red line in PS) rising pretty consistent up until 6000rpm, where the power output of the engine plateaus. Just over 7000rpm both torque and power output drastically drop off, so it's quite clear that with this engine there's no advantage to running at a higher rpm than that because it's not providing any further power increase going over that rpm number.
Instead (as you unfortunately found out) the engine runs at a speed it's not designed to endure for extended amounts of time and will take damage over time. How much damage that is is very mod-dependent - some are very lenient and others less so.

Going away from the Golf example now with certain other engines you will continue to gain power output up into and throughout the range where the engine will already take damage over time when running at or near max rpm, making the higher rpm setting(s) viable in Qualifying whereas you'll need to tune it down somewhat for a whole race distance.
For example in the 24h Le Mans for decades the drivers were instructed to run no higher than a certain rpm number for the majority of the race, sacrificing even seconds per lap in the process but keeping the (at that time still more fragile) engine in one piece to survive the race of attrition that it was.

So checking in which rev range the engine performs best and then also keeping an eye on the engine health during Practice for a couple of laps on the rpm setting you set should keep an engine failure like yours from happening again in the future.

              Thank you very much Nils.
That was very nice to give me all these clear explanations.

I admit i never really took a look on the specifications of the cars because 'horsepower', 'torque' & 'the graph', it was like chinese to me but now thanks to you i understand a bit more about this.
Sure your help, again, will help me to make better setup & a better understanding of how work the car.

About what you wrote on the 24h Le Mans (the drivers were instructed to run no higher than a certain rpm number) that remind me some scenes of the movie 'Ford V Ferrari' in which they exactly talked about that, not exceed some rpm with the Ford during a time in the race. After broke an engine & your explanations these scenes sound more comprehensible to me.

I changed my French 'advanced setup menu' to the english one like your so it is very useful now to have this 'details' tab for the 'graphic' & specs.

Thanks again for all your help
